The Diabetes Code
Jason Fung · 2018
Type 2 diabetes is not a chronic, one-way disease you simply manage with ever-more medication. Jason Fung argues it is a dietary disorder of too much insulin, and shows how low-carb eating and intermittent fasting can prevent and even reverse it at the root.
Popular, clear guide to preventing and reversing type 2 diabetes through diet and fasting.
Three of the ideas you’ll keep
The Clif summary of The Diabetes Code pulls out 7 insights. Here are the first three.
- Treat the cause, not the number: type 2 diabetes is driven by chronically high insulin, not just high blood sugar, so lowering insulin (the cause) beats endlessly chasing glucose (a symptom).
- Cut refined carbs and added sugar first. They spike insulin the hardest. Replace bread, rice, pasta, cereal, soda, and juice with whole, unprocessed foods.
- Treat fructose as a toxin for the liver. Only the liver processes it, and excess turns straight into liver fat, so eliminate sugar-sweetened drinks, candy, and 'hidden sugar' in dressings and flavored yogurt.
